Abstract
While the public expositions of the miraculous Body of St Francis Xavier – 17, from the first one held in 1782 to the one in 2014 – are remembered, the many exhumations and expositions that took place between 1552 and 1782 are less well known. The Body was redesignated “Sacred Relics” in 1953. And from the year 1964 onwards, the Expositions became a decennial event. Whether the purpose is still spiritual or has turned partly commercial is a question that is also dealt with in the article.
