This fragility has developed the political discourse in Goa. The family centric nature of regional parties contributed to the success of National Political Parties. Overemphasis on state politics alienated Goa from India’s national politics. Amidst this, dominant interest groups have managed to reinvent the issues of identity in their favour. The scenario before and after the Legislative Assembly Elections in March, 2022 has further fuelled this fragility and unaccountability in the tiny coastal state. In this article, we explore the major areas of electoral politics that have caused this legacy to continue. It presents the case wherein the political decentralisation has failed to initiate cultural decentralisation in the state keeping the aristocratic nature of polity intact.Item Congress' decline in Maharashtra(Dempo, 2024-12-10) Varak, NawooItem Dynamics of women's empowerment(Sagar Lade, 2023-10-05) Varak, NawooItem Goa needs linguistic civility(Dempo, 2024-09-06) Varak, NawooItem Linguistic rhetoric and people's rights(Dempo, 2025-03-17) Varak, NawooItem Mhadei: A federal concern(Sagar Lade, 2023-01-29) Varak, NawooItem NEP: The way forward for higher education(Dempo, 2024-02-15) Varak, NawooItem One-Party Dominance System and the BJP(Sagar Lade, 2022-12-14) Varak, NawooItem Peep into 'merit vs domicile' debate(Dempo, 2025-07-24) Varak, NawooItem Rabindranath Tagore on Nation(Dempo, 2025-05-12) Varak, NawooItem Relevance of Maratha and Goan Identity on Politics of Goa(Kolkata Centre for Contemporary Studies, 2025) Varak, NawooIn Goa, the Maratha identity mobilizes the Bahujan castes horizontally, the ‘Goan’ identity maintains the social hierarchies vertically. While the political idea of Bahujan Maratha shapes the electoral politics in Goa, the social identity of ‘Goan’ counters it. The separation of social from the political maintains the hegemony of the dominant classes in Goa. The electoral politics in the post-colonial Goa comforted communal understanding of the identities for electoral gains. The political leadership in the state employs these identities to bargain with the national political parties. This article aims to trace the historical origin of both the identities and reflect on their transition caused by electoral politics. The Marathisation of the Goan identity attempts to democratise the public sphere in Goa by providing the historical background to the political assertion of bahujan castes.Item Remembering Ahilyabai Holkar(Dempo, 2025-05-31) Varak, NawooItem Understanding Pastoral Nomadic Perspective From the Western Ghats(Goa University, 2023) Varak, NawooItem
